Classes

  • It's normal and common to feel uncertain about where to start, especially when there are so many unique and transformative classes available at Pause + Purpose. One approach is to begin by exploring what resonates with you most in terms of your current needs—whether that's stress relief, joyous movement, physical strength, resilience, or deeper inner work.

However, the beauty of Pause + Purpose is that our classes are mentor-led, meaning that each class, even those with the same name, can offer a different experience depending on the mentor guiding it. This approach allows the mentors to lead from a place of authenticity and connection, fostering a true exchange between them and the participants.

We encourage you to try out a variety of classes, as this will give you the opportunity to experience the different styles and approaches each mentor brings. You might find that you connect more with certain classes or mentors, and that can guide you in selecting the ones that best support your journey. The key is to remain open and curious—each class you take can be a step toward discovering what feels most aligned with you. If you need additional guidance, don't hesitate to contact our Studio Experience and Wellness Guide, Morgan, at Morgan@pauseandpurpose.com.

  • Our gatherings are usually anywhere from 4-11 people max, but occasionally you might get an unexpected private class and we encourage you to take advantage of that opportunity to work on your unique needs!

  • Not much! We provide mats, pillows, yoga blocks, Back Jack chairs, leg bolsters, tea, and water. We want you to have as relaxing and seamless an experience as possible.

If you tend to get cold when you meditate, consider bringing a blanket, and if you’d like to journal, please bring a writing utensil and something to write on.

  • You may cancel free of charge up to 2 hours before. Members, if you cancel within 2 hours, you’ll be charged $15. If you miss class without canceling, the no-show fee is $20. Non-members simply lose their credit.

If you have a true emergency, we would like to know so you don’t get charged. Please contact us at info@pauseandpurpose.com.

  • Our studio operates on a 10-minute grace period policy for late arrivals, after which the door will be closed, ensuring a punctual and seamless experience for all participants.

  • There is a free parking lot across the street from the studio.

  • For our regular classes, we recommend ages 15 and over, since occasionally sensitive topics may arise.

  • We do! One of our mentors is a childrens’ mindfulness facilitator and can be booked for private groups and classes. We also welcome our members to bring their kids for our quarterly solstice and equinox celebrations where we have crafts and meditations for all ages. We also are frequent contributors to the Get Growing activity booth at the Westport Farmers Market.

  • "Trauma-sensitive" classes at Pause + Purpose are designed with an understanding that many people have experienced some form of trauma, even if they may not identify it as such. These classes are crafted to create a safe, supportive environment that is mindful of the needs of all participants, regardless of their background.

Being trauma-sensitive means that the classes prioritize safety, choice, and empowerment. The instructors are trained to be aware of the different ways trauma can impact individuals and to offer practices that are gentle, inclusive, and non-triggering. The focus is on creating a space where everyone can participate at their own pace, with modifications and options that allow them to feel comfortable and in control of their experience.

You do not need to have been traumatized to attend these classes. They are open to anyone who seeks a compassionate, mindful approach to wellness, whether or not they have a history of trauma. The trauma-sensitive approach benefits everyone by promoting a welcoming and respectful atmosphere.

  • Pause + Purpose is a non-religious company. We present our programming from a neutral and scientific mindfulness-based meditation approach with concrete applications. While some of our teachers may make reference to abstract, esoteric, or religious aspects of meditation practice, we aim to shed light on all faiths, beliefs, modalities, and cultures in a curious and non-biased manner.

  • We are emphasizing a focus on practices that connect participants with a sense of inner peace, purpose, and a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them. The term "spiritual" in this context refers to the exploration and nurturing of one's inner life, often involving practices that encourage mindfulness, reflection, and a connection to something greater than oneself, whether that's a sense of universal love, a higher power, or simply a deeper connection with the community and nature.

"Spiritual" does not necessarily imply any particular religious belief; instead, it suggests a focus on personal growth, self-awareness, and the cultivation of qualities like compassion, gratitude, and presence. The goal is to support participants in their journey of self-discovery and inner alignment, fostering a sense of well-being that transcends the physical or material aspects of life.

In essence, "spiritual" in this context means creating space for individuals to explore and nurture their inner selves, often through practices like meditation, mindful movement, and contemplative activities, in a way that resonates personally with them.

Mental Health + Wellbeing

  • While many of our wellness providers are trained counselors, therapists, and clinicians, our meditation groups are not meant to be a replacement for personalized medical care. We are here to provide you with new tools, but any change or discontinuation of therapeutic, psychological, psychiatric or other medical treatment should be undertaken with the direct supervision and guidance of a medical or other specialist mental health clinician.

  • Meditation does not cause mental health or psychiatric disorders. Occasionally, it may bring up latent trauma, which can trigger strong, seemingly overwhelming, thoughts and emotions. Meditation may offer an opportunity to recognize, release and transcend these states. However, if there is a mental health condition, a participant may feel overwhelmed and additional medical and psychiatric support may be required.
