Franciska’s Bio
About
Franciska is an Ayurvedic Practitioner and herbalist, yoga teacher, and sound healing facilitator. She has been teaching yoga, meditation, and breathing exercises for over 20 years and has a specialized focus on pelvic floor health and movement. Her Ayurvedic practice focuses on personalized digestive health, herbal support, lifestyle (re)education, and spiritual support.
Journey
Art, movement, spirituality, and science have been the through lines of Franciska's life. Her journey began with Buddhism, eastern philosophy, and earth traditions in her teenage years and continued through her college years at the Maryland Institute College of Art. She trained in the traditional practice of hatha yoga at the Sivananda ashram where she discovered, among many other things, the healing power of meditation and mantra. Franciska also has a background in dance, specifically Flamenco and experimental.
After over a decade of teaching, a complicated birth (and a resulting pelvic floor injury) led Franciska to begin intensive study of the pelvic floor, herbal medicine, pre/postpartum healing, and teaches Pelvic Floor Yoga and Pre/postnatal Yoga. She's trained with herbalists and top Ayurvedic doctors in the US and India. In addition to meditation and breathing, she uses tuning forks, mantra therapy, and other sound applications for subtle body healing.
In her "other life," she works as a video producer supporting national and global nonprofits in the area of women's health and rights, healthcare, and education.
Practice
Franciska's personal practice is rooted in Vedic philosophy as well as reverence for the natural world. She believes that Nature's expression in the environment, and through our bodies and minds, gives us the template for health. For Franciska, combining the wisdom of ancient traditions with modern scientific explorations gives us tools to heal ourselves and our world.
Mission
Franciska's mission is to help translate ancient practices and contemporary science into practical applications for daily life. She lives by the motto that "something is better than nothing" and even the smallest steps in the direction of health can have great benefits.
